Head-to-Head’s Up: 11/20-11/26 - Turkey Edition

Good news is most teams have a full schedule this coming week.  Great news is I’m gonna gain 10 pounds and love it on Thursday.  Greatest news is all the deals at Best Buy on Black Friday.
Ok, back to basketball:

Four games: Charlotte, Cleveland, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Golden State, Indiana, LA Clippers, Memphis, Miami, New Jersey, New Orleans, New York, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Portland, San Antonio, Seattle, Toronto, Utah, Washington.

Three Games: Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Houston, LA Lakers, Milwaukee, Minnesota, Sacramento.

Plug ‘em in, Plug ‘em in:

Danny Granger, F: The second-year forward out of New Mexico is starting (30 mpg) and contributing across the board (13/5/2 w/ 2 treys and about 1 block/steal over his last five games).  With four games next week you probably want to start Granger over guys like Childress or Ricky Davis.

Andris Biedrins, F/C: Latvian sensation and FBB fave, Andris Biedrins, has been a welcome addition to many fantasy teams lately.  Averaging 12 and 12 with 2.3 blocks and 74%FG this week, Andris logged a whopping 43 minutes last night (w/ Murphy out).  Biedrins is Don Nelson’s unquestioned starting center right now and should definitely be in your fantasy lineup for four games next week.

Tyronn Lue, PG: It took no time at all for Speedy to hurt himself again.  The high-priced offseason acquisition is looking more and more like a mistake. Meanwhile, former Wizard Tyronn Lue is stepping up - averaging 35 mpg over his last four and should be a nice source of points, threes, and assists while Claxton is out.

Reggie Evans, PF: In what seemed inevitable, K-Mart has gone under… the knife that is.  Primary backup, Nene, is still day-to-day with a bruised knee, but won’t be fully recovered until 2007.  This leaves the big and boring Reggie Evans to clean the glass in Denver, and that’s about all he’ll do for you.  He won’t score more than 7 points a night (Carmelo and Andre Miller are more likely to combine for 70), but if you need rebounds you should embrace him.  If/when Camby goes down, Evans will probably haul in 18 boards a game for some time.

Sit ‘em down:

Zaza Pachulia, F/C: Zaza may be my favorite European Center (next to that hostel I stayed at in Amsterdam), but he has his limits.  After a strong start, Za-Pa has slowed down a bit recently.  He’s still got plenty of value as a #2 center, but with the Hawks only playing three games you may want to look elsewhere this week…  perhaps a Wilcox or Frye would be better.

Ben Wallace, F/C: Obviously on the downside of his career, Big Ben’s clock is ticking.  These days, instead of dominating his strong categories (boards, steals, blocks) and not hurting you elsewhere, Wallace is merely getting by in those cats while hurting you with just 5 ppg and hitting only 40% of his shots from the floor this season.  One block per game already has his owners frustrated this year.  I hate to say it, but someone like Biedrins would be a better guy to plug in your lineup this week.

Celtics Point Guards: Why do these guys (Telfair, Rondo, West) remind me of the NY Jets backfield?  Maybe because the coach has decided to use three different players to do one man’s job.  Sure one of them may hit paydirt any given Sunday (or weeknight), but they are not worth your time until someone earns Doc Rivers’ trust (and consistently get 30+ minutes).  Hopefully the situation will work itself out soon, giving fantasy owners at least one player with some value.  Until then, they all should be riding some fantasy pine.

Also: Props (so far) to those owners who took a chance on injury-risks Baron Davis, Jason Kidd, and Emeka Okafor.  Those guys are playing out of their minds and are good sell high candidates; or perhaps just great picks that you should be happy with.  What you think?

Enjoy the turkey and the games.

I think Hughes is the most expendable person on that list.

LaMarcus Aldridge is out there on the FA list. Is it worth cuttting any of these guys for him:

Tyson Chandler, Troy Murphy, Cuttino Mobley, Quentin Richardson, Raymond Felton, Kendrick Perkins, Rajon Rondo.

Thanks for any tips.

jimmyjames: If anyone, I’d have to say Rondo, but do you really need Aldridge? You already have Chandler, Perkins, Randolph, Boozer, Duncan, and Murphy.. if anything you could use PG help.

Also, I got offered Brandon Roy, Shaq, and Martell Webster for Tyronn Lue and Biedrins. I’m almost certain Shaq will outperform Biedrins at the end of the year overall, despite his slow start and current injury. Biedrins seems to be quite the FT% killer himself, so I’m not too concerned about Shaq making it any worse. Lue was just a FA pickup I was going to ride the hot hand on, so I’m not at all worried about losing him. Without Lue, I still have Kidd, Billups, Felton, Marbury, Deron Williams, and Jarett Jack fighting for PG slots (i love pgs in h2h). My forwards and centers, for whom I only care about blocks, are Darko, Biedrins, Rasheed Wallace, and Aldridge (actually he’s a SF/PF,

jimmyjames,
i would drop Rondo for Aldridge.

The Celtics PG by committee (rondo, telfair, west) is not leaving enough minutes for any one of them to be valuable at this point.

Aldridge has (at least) short term value, with Przybilla and Lafrentz injured and Magloire playing crappy. He could have long-term value if

a) they trade Magloire
b)either Przybilla or Lafrentz can’t stay healthy
c) he gets C-eligibility in Yahoo

yeah rich, you have to take that deal. roy and shaq for sure. im not going to break that deal down because its so one sided to me.

jimmyjames-im giong with everyone else here. get rid of rondo if anyone. he has marginal value and isnt guaranteed anything.

Err I just realized my last post somehow got cut, anyway I was asking (as Terrance figured out) if there was any concieveable reason that I wouldn’t accept this trade:

I would get Roy, Shaq, M. Webster - for Lue and Biedrins. It seems so lopsided to me, since I can wait the one month for Roy to heal. I picked up Millsap in hopes he could get some rebounds and blocks in the short term, but I’m willing to drop him to take on Martell Webster long enough to drop him and get a shiny new free agent.. Al Jefferson or Jason Williams perhaps.

Who should i drop for evans.

I’m thinking nazr mohammad, wells or watson.

Will watson produce close to last years numbers. i just need like 12pts, 5ast, 1.3stl, 1.5 3s and decent %s. Will he get that.

November 17th, 2006 2:16 pm

arpit, i was a frustrated watson owner and i cut ties. i think he’ll have a little value…my arbitrary projections are

9pts 4ast 1 moneyball 1stl with blah %’s….the %’s wont matter cos he wont take enough shots to matter.

I just traded Webber/Stackhouse for Bell/Hughes. I’m losing rebounds and was thinking of picking up Evans.

Should I drop Damon Stoadomire, Perkins, or Pietrus?

Is Evans worth picking up at all?

I too am very intrigued by Aldridge, but don’t have anyone to drop. My guards are all SOLID, and my bigs are Kaman, Krstic, Wilcox, Camby and Darko (I have David West but he isn’t a center). Anyways, will LA possibly be more valuable than any of these guys. Kaman has been by far the worst, but that is cause of the injury to his quad. Darko is being Darko, and it looks like LA is shooting really well and getting PT.

Anyways, I’m afraid he’ll be taken really soon and so any advice you have is appreciated.

jimmyjames - feel free to cut Rondo loose. He’s 3rd on the depth chart after Telfair and West. Aldridge got his first start tonight and is definitely worth a roster spot. Telfair is off to a hot start tonight btw.

OB - Yes, Villanueva is out for at least a month but I’m not sure that 19-year-old Ilyasova will step up with any kind of consistency. You may be better off with a Reggie Evans or McDyess in your deeeeep league.

arpit - drop Watson… he has no real value unless Ridnour goes down.

DW - I’m not sure I’d drop any of those guys for Evans yet. Depending on your roster you may want to pull the trigger if Evans has a big game. Just keep in mind he’s totally one-dimensional and a decent pickup for rebounds in deep leagues.

Jeremy - Hang on to your big men for now, but if Aldridge starts tearing it up you may want to kick Darko to the curb.

Plus, it looks like Big Ben heard me talking smack today… he showed up tonight throwing elbows and yelling, “Who you callin’ OLD?! Get off me son!!”

What do you guys think about Peja Stojakovic this season? He’s been struggling a bit, but he’s hitting his 3s as usual. I’m tempted to trade Butler somehow for him, and I’ve noticed the guy who has Butler also has Ilgauskas, who would be quite helpful to my team. Here is my roster for a standard 9-cat, 12 man h2h.

PGs
Kidd
Billups
Deron Williams
Marbury
Felton
Lue

Swingmen
Ginobili
Butler
Wally

Bigs
Sheed
Biedrins
Darko
Mourning - Just picked him up the second I heard Shaq was down for 4-6 weeks.

Basically, my big men are only there to get blocks, though I feel Darko and Biedrins are working my FT% pretty hard. Maybe it’s because Deron Williams decided to not shoot 3s for a while, but I feel like I could use one dominant 3 shooter to seal the category. As much as I love Butler’s steals, I’m pretty sure I’ll be ok without him there. Ilgauskas may be struggling, but he’s still blocking shots, rebounding well, and he’s hitting his usual high FT%.. I’m thinking I offer something like Marbury and Butler for those two.. any thoughts?

rich, id rather have butler personally but i get the feeling alot of people would disagree with me. butler is just so undervalued.

bynum, nazr, dampier, kurt thomas. all crap, which piece would you want as a 3rd c?

I actually like Butler overall better than Peja too - but I think for my team, having a guy who can just win me the 3 category would be better, especially when I have a ton of thiefs. That’s part of the reason I want to go for Ilgauskas along with him - I agree though, overal lI think Butler is worth more than Peja.

I’d say Dampier, then Bynum as the 3rd C.. though Mohammed might be worth it since he might pick up if he hasn’t fully recovered from ramadan (though it ended almost month a go, he still was fasting so he might need to get back into shape)

Call me crazy…

When I saw Baron Davis leave tonight’s game with a rib injury, I flew to the keyboard and scooped up Monta Ellis (who finished up with a 31/7/7)

Ellis has been on my watch list for a few games now and the not unexpected Davis injury was all the prompting I needed to make the move.

Now, here comes the crazy part:

Contrary to nearly unanimous advice against it, I jettisoned Gerald Wallace to make the move. Risky, I know, but at this point - early as it is - I’m fairly confident that Wallace’s numbers last year were a fluke. His so-called “slow start” this season is actually very similar to his ‘04-’05 season averages when he played alongside a healthy Okafor all year.

Check it out:

‘04-’05: 11.1 pts/5.5 reb/2.0 ast/1.7 stl/1.3 blk
‘06-’07: 10.3 pts/4.0 reb/1.6 ast/1.3 stl/0.6 blk

In other words, I’m betting that Ellis’s upside (even with a healthy Davis in the lineup) will significantly exceed whatever improvements Wallace may achieve beyond his current level.

Oh yeah, one other thing:

Anyone have any thoughts on the prospects of Garbajosa who’s now started 2 games in a row at C for the Raps. He seems a bit short for the position (listed at 6′9) but he put up a nice line tonight (17/10/6 2 stls, 1 blk, 1 3pm) and his only competition at the position is Rasho. Anyone think that he could he wind up being an Okur type C?

bublitchki, that’s pretty fascinating about gerald wallace, and it makes a lot of sense as well. I’m pretty surprised that ellis was available in your league, but that’s a fine-up. as for garbajosa, I think he’s got great potential as a C - remember, so many teams are going ’small’ now that a 6-9 C isn’t at much of a height disadvantage!

22
November 19th, 2006 12:40 pm

bulitchki,
that makes sense with wallace, as long as Okafor can stay healthy. He hasn’t proven to be durable thus far in his career….
