Head-to-Head’s Up: 12/4-12/10

Ahh, there’s nothing like waking up to a balmy 66 degrees on the 1st of December in the nation’s capital.  Is it global warming? Or perhaps Gilbert Arenas’s scorching hot shooting (33%) this past week?  Could it just be anticipation for tonight’s Wizards/Bobcats game?  Yes, Yes, I’m sure it’s that last one.  Well, setting your fantasy hoops lineup isn’t any more of a science than predicting climate change, so let’s get to it.

Four games: Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Golden State, Houston, Indiana, LA Lakers, Memphis, Milwaukee, Orlando, Phoenix, Portland, Sacramento, San Antonio, Washington.

Three Games: Charlotte, Denver, Detroit, LA Clippers, Miami, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Orleans, New York, Philadelphia, Seattle, Toronto.

Two Games: Cleveland, Utah.

Plug ‘em in, Plug ‘em in:

Raja Bell, SG: Ok, so this one may be obvious.  Raja has broken out of his early season slump in a big way, averaging 22 points and draining at least 4 treys a night in his last five games.  He’s actually shooting more and at a higher percentage from behind the arc (47.0%) than from short range (46.7%).  Bell has developed into one of the premiere three-point specialists in the league and should be in everybody’s lineups right now.

Jamaal Tinsley, PG: There’s no telling how long JT will stay healthy, let alone keep up his current hot streak.  So, there’s no better time than right now to take advantage.  Save for an off game at Portland on Tuesday, Jamaal has posted some nifty averages (18/5/7, 1.6 threes, 1.6 spg) over the last two weeks.  Plug him in with confidence as the Pacers tip off four times this week.

Luol Deng, G/F:  Bill Clinton may have been from Hope, Arkansas, but Luol Deng hails from Wow, Sudan.  The former Blue Devil continues to make significant progress in his third pro season, upping his scoring average to 18 on 13.6 shot attempts per game.  He is currently shooting a ridiculous 54.5% from the floor and is chipping in on the defensive cats as well (1.2 spg, 0.7 bpg).  The Bulls take the court four times next week so be sure to have Luol in your lineups Deng it!!

Hakim Warrick, F: It’s been a bit of a roller coaster ride the first month for Warrick and his owners, but the former Syracuse standout is getting big minutes again and delivering solid percentages: 52%FG, 71%FT.  Memphis has some nice matchups on tap (@NY, @BOS, @MIL, LAC), and with Mike Miller and Chucky Atkins (get him in your lineup while you’re at it) being the team’s other scoring options right now, Warrick appears to be a smart play.

Sit ‘em down:

Andrei Kirilenko, F: The gas-operated assault rifle is known for filling up the stat sheets, but this year, Kirilenko has frustrated his owners yet again.  He remains a major injury risk and his offense has all but vanished in Utah.  BV suggested selling him if you can get some decent value, but I’m not sure who would bite right now.  The Jazz only play twice this week, so go ahead and tell Andrei to grab some pine.

Speedy Claxton, PG: Many (including myself) targeted Atlanta’s new floor general in drafts as a potential sleeper.  Instead, the Hawks’ decision to spend $25 million to acquire the veteran backup is beginning to look worse than my decision to sign up with Mobile ESPN as my wireless service provider last summer.  Sure, the Hawks have a full schedule coming up, but four potential blowout losses on a west coast swing can’t be something they’re looking forward to.  Speedy just sucks a fat one right now anyway… shooting 23% from the field while sporting season highs of 9 points and 5 assists.  If you don’t have room to sit him at the end of your bench, feel free to cut him loose.

i think odom is the better player, but it only leaves you with two C’s. Do you want to put all your trust in yao, who has an injury history?

odom is the best player in the trade, so id probably do it and worry about any problems it poses later.

ok I need help!!!
I posted my line-up earlier complaining of too many starters…Roto legaue 8 category 11 teams (day to day substitutions with max 82 games per position)

PG: C. PAUL
SG: REDD
G: A. Miller
F: J. Smith
SF: C. Butler
PF: Boozer
C: Ming
C: Mourning
Util: Alston
Util: Prince

BEnch: Granger
Bench: Felton
Bench: Kristic

I need to know too things
I am leading my leaguer (ok I am second but the only guy in front is ahead by like 22 games and I will catch him…) weak in threes and sort of blocks…

Who do I start at Util
I think it is hard to sit rafer when he is giving you threes and blocks!! but I think Felton will look good

and it is hard to sit prince

I think I am in a classic need to trade situation…

But for Who?

I am tried to get peja for two of Felton, Prince, Alsto, Granger and Kristic but now he is hurt…

I want to do a two for one with those five to get a good three point shooter - Nothing on waiver wire - I swear - it is slim pickings… I have first waiver priority so I know.

Anyways any help is appreciated

what you guys think about Nick Collison, who’s now starting?

I’ve always thought Collison could be solid (not great, but solid) if given the minutes. I just dropped Garbajosa for him (to fill my backup center slot), and I’m really just hoping for a double-double, 10 pts, 10 rebounds. He doesn’t block so don’t expect that. His FG% right now is atrocious but I fully expect it to come up (for his career it’s over 50%). If you have modest expectations, he’s a good pickup, I think.

yeah he seems like he’s capable of putting up some good numbers with some more minutes and confidence. I actually had him on my team a few weeks ago when he put a couple nice games together, but then went down hill again. Hopefully he’ll do better this time.

is it too early to offer kevin martin for bosh or boozer? should i wait another month until martin is more proven?

i dont want to look like im trying to pull one over on the other manager because ill lose my credibility within the league. weve had this league for four seasons now and everone knows each other. if youre in a league with friends, you know how important that is. :)

terrance, you can make the offer but i wouldn’t expect it to get accepted. definitely not for bosh - maybe for boozer but it’s still unlikely.

it only looks like oyu’re pulling one over if the other guy accepts it! and then, really, it’s more on him than on you.

I just got offered Brad Miller and Tim Thomas for Wright and Zaza.. now I think Thomas is a uselses player in this deal, but is something wrong with Brad Miller that I’m not aware of? I’m trying to figure out why I shouldn’t accept this deal.. and why I was proposed this.

because the owners freaking out. dont get me wrong, miller is on the downside of his career, but for what the guys offering, you dont have to give up anything to get him. id grab him, miller put up a couple stinkers so far in his return from injury, but i think its because hes getting himself back into gameshape more than it is that he just cant play anymore.

remember he played 2-3 games before the injury and from what i read, the injury lingered in teh preseason, hes in bad shape, just give him a week or two and he should be pretty solid.

this post doesnt read to well lol, im all over the place :) . id love to get miller for the crap yr giving up.

doesn anyone else know if anything is up with miller? thomas is pretty much garbage, id trade him for something like jameer nelson (whos in a terrible funk). if you dont already have jameer, which most of the readers do here :)

Here’s another one for your consideration:

I have just been offered Arenas for Chris Paul, straight up. Arenas’ owner is frustrated with his inconsistency and piss-poor FG% so far.

I’m tempted but am not sure that I myself am ready to climb aboard the Arenas rollercoaster.

Here’s my team (weekly H2H league):

PG: Paul, D. Williams, Barbosa, Ellis
SG: J. Howard, Iguodala, Josh Smith
SF: KG, AK47
PF: D. Howard, Odom
C: Biedrins

As you can see, I’m kinda light in scoring, 3s and free throws - all areas that Gilbert can help. But is it worth the potential hit in assists and FG%?

I know our esteemed hosts here are Wiz fans and get to watch Gilbert far more than I do out here on the West Coast. What say, guys: how do you see Gilbert’s season going from here on out? Do you think he can turn things around enough that I won’t come to regret pulling the trigger on this deal?

I’d do the trade in an instant myself, another thing to consider: in the last six weeks, the Hornets play 3-3-4-3-3-3 games per week. The Wizards on the other hand, have 4-2-4-4-4-4 games per week to close it out. So, you’d get an extra game per week out of Arenas versus Paul during the last three weeks, or the playoff stretch.

I say take Arenas… the FG% difference might not be so much by the end of the year, if you look at Arenas’ last couple of years. But I’m always thinking in roto mode — Arenas fills your holes perfectly, as you said. I guess in a h2h league it depends on your strategy. Can you win the categories Arenas helps in?

Believe it or not, I actually turned down the deal.

My reasons - as Rook correctly guessed - were due to the quirks of the H2H system. It’s an 11-cat league (standard 9 cats + offensive rebs and free throws made). Right now, I’m dominant in 6 cats (FG%, Off Rebs, Tot Rebs, Asts, Stls, Blks) I’m barely competitive in the points, 3pm & free throw cats where Gilbert would have helped me the most. Had I made the deal, I would have risked weakening my dominance in FG% and assists without significantly strengthening my current areas of mediocrity.

It was a tough, tough call. Gilbert is rated ahead of Paul on just about every player rater I know of and - as Rich pointed out - the schedule strongly favors Arenas come playoff time.

What do you guys think about Chris Webber right now? He is currently sitting in FA and I think he’ll probably get plucked pretty soon. Should I give up someone C-Eligible (Chris Wilcox, for example) to get him?

He’s a horrible shooter but if he can get me 18/10 with some assists and steals then it could turn out to be very nice. However, he is defintely an injury risk…just games like last night make me want to have him on my roster.

What do you guys think?

k so guys in my league the only guys that are competing for the championship is me and this one cheating faggot. The guy in third place is 20 games behind and i’m like 5 behind. I lost to the leader 13-2. I lost some things that i should not have lost, like pts, fgm, 3ptm, blk. but even if i won those i would still get dominated. my plan is to punt assists, tos, a/t ratio. So i’m thinking of getting rid of guys like deron wiliams, rafer alston, mo williams, and tj ford. Who should i be targeting for these guys if i need rebounds and maybe fts and stl and i need not to lose too many pts. i still have guys like marvin williams, and brandon roy out so they will help out but how much will they help.

pretty much, he is the commish and he told the guy he would lock his team if he didn’t accept his trade. He traded ricky davis and steve francis for zack randolf. Since everyone else in the league doesn’t check at all now that they are like 30 games behind after this weekend, he does whatever he wants.

I’m hoping to get roy and marvin williams back so that i can beat him and get back bragging rights.

Sounds like a shitty league…why play. I am also in a league where the commish went rampid and did the same type of crap. I don’t even check it…it is rediculous that it should happen like that and takes the fun out of it I think if you cheat.
