I like to evaluate teams based on how patriotic they are. The more all-American, the better. For that reason, I can't stand the teams put together so far by Frank (Gasol's Spanish, and Barbosa's Brazilian), Alex (between Yao and Andrei, this team should be called The Red Menace), Jeremy (Nash is Canadian), Sean (Tony Parker is - egads - French), BV (Nowitzki's German, Deng's from Sudan), Raymond (Ginobili's from Argentina), PR (Biedrins is a Ruskie), All (Dalembert, Haiti), and Terrance (Okur, Turkey). I also disqualify Joel because Kobe Bryant grew up outside the U.S. (Italy), and Ruyun because "Rasheed" is the kind of name they'd give terrorist characters on '24.' Which leaves DM. Congratulations, man. You're a great American.

Deng was a steal in the 5th round.
He put up late 3rd round value (in TO leagues) / early 4th round (in non-TO leagues) last year...

Ginobili was nice value as well, though he is always somewhat of of an injury risk

As for Alex's team, I think is absolutely had the best first two rounds in grabbing perhaps the two best centers in the game (maybe). It depends on your draft position, but this approach to getting (1) amazing big men, (2) good point guards, and (3) swingmen seem to be the best approach. When you can get people like Rip Hamilton, Richard Jefferson, Corey Maggette late, it might not hurt too bad for passing on a Vince Carter, etc.

But yeah, I love Alex's team the best so far I think.

So my team is 'interesting' but is destined to struggle? I agree I won't lead the league in FT% with Howard on my squad, but I'm not sure why so many of you think he was a reach in the second round. Shaq shot 50% with around 11 attempts from the line when he was in his prime. That didn't stop fantasy owners from making him a perennial top 5 pick. How about Howard's 60%FG, 12 boards, and 2 swats a game??

Frank, thru six rounds I have three guys (Williams, Roy, Felton) who averaged more than 1 trey per game last year. I'd rather have solid contributions from many rather than relying on a couple of three-point specialists. Raja Bell and J.R. Smith don't really interest me.

PR has an interesting team, but it's not just FT% where he's going to struggle--he's got nobody to shoot 3s . . . I like Alex's team a lot more--but he'll need more assists (I don't count Joe Johnson as a PG, though he'll get above average assists). Most teams here have a weakness at this point, inevitably.

My thinking: I was really pleased to get Bibby and Terry in the 5th and 6th, despite a desire for a PG who generated more assists--along with Barbosa and Iguodala, and Gasol's above average assists from the C position, I felt I could at least be competitive . . . and liked what these two did for my chances at high scores in 3s, Steals, and FT%. Not perfect, but pretty good.

quick recap on my thinking... First 2 rounds I hand an opportunity to lock up 2 top tier centers and that what I did with Yao and Duncan. Next round I went for a pg in j. johnson. then i wanted to address 3pt and grabbed kev. martin.. that i think was a bit of a stretch. next round i wanted to address assists and grabbed tj. ford. at this point my biggest weakness was steals and i hoped to address it with AK. but as bv said it's a big risk, especially with his situation with utah. still i think i am pretty week in steals, 3pts and even rebounds, since i don't have a pf. maybe i should have gone for a pf instead of kev martin pick.
