More Foye Ya

At this point in the season it is pretty vital to stay sharp in watching the injuries and transactions that go down in the league. Making the right roster moves at this point can set you up for long term success riding into the fantasy playoffs. A few examples:

Randy Foye:
Tonight Foye made his season debut against Chicago and, while he didn’t set the world on fire, showed a very promising return for the second year player. He put up 11 points on 4/8 shooting and included a 3PTM. It’ll be interesting to see how the playing time shakes out once Foye returns to full game form. However, Minnesota intends to build around Al Jefferson and Foye, and his development will take precedence over providing PT for the likes of Sebastian Telfair, Rashad McCants or especially Marko Jaric. I fully expect him to finish out the year strong with numbers similar to what he produced in April of last season: 15/4/4 with 1 STL and 1+ 3PTM.

Elton Brand:
In the last 24 hours, both Brand and Foye have been picked up in both of my leagues. At this point it’s unsure how fast Brand will exactly return, but he’s been cleared to participate in full running and jumping exercises, and upon hearing the news Brand immediately went to work out. It seems that Elton has been missing the court, and even if he doesn’t come back at 100%, he’ll be a significant fantasy force. He rated out at #6 overall on the average player rater last season and is a huge wildcard. For those in H2H leagues, it might not be too early to stash him on your bench. Chris Kaman owners beware of the trickle down impacts that will be felt when Brand finally makes it back to the court and starts to get his share of the points and boards from Kaman.

(Potential) Trade Fallout:
Anyone else hear about Jason Kidd’s trade demands? This could really shake up the roster on a couple of NBA teams, and bring certain players both into and out of fantasy significance. More than anyone else, keep Marcus Williams on your watch list, as when Kidd goes out it’s likely he’ll get the starting nod and put up great numbers (as Point Guards tend to do). Teams including Dallas and Portland have been linked as potential trade partners, and it’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out.

Other Notes:
Kareem Rush came off the bench today, which may not be a great sign; he is somewhat injured and his shot struggled in the last few games and was replaced in the Pacer’s starting lineup by Travis Diener, who put up 18 points tonight. A good example of what playing time does for good, young reserve players…look no further than Leon Powe or fantasy tease Andray Blatche. Powe filled in for an injured KG and responded with career highs of 25 and 11, while Blatche went off for 19/8 while achieving the coveted 1/1/1 blocks, steals and 3PTM stat line. Chris Webber signed with the Golden State Warriors today; it’s uncertain how he’ll respond to Nellie Ball, but it’s possible he could supplant Al Harrington in the starting lineup. Webber probably won’t create as much fantasy value for himself as he might steal numbers from Harrington and Andris Biedrins.

I think C-Webb will put up very good fantasy numbers in Nellie’s high-tempo transition offense if he can stay healthy. Of course, at the expense of Biedrins and Harrington, as you mentioned.

Random question: would you give up Iguodola for Dunleavy and Stephen Jackson? I could use the depth at guard, which is where both those guys qualify in my league. And if you could pick 2 of these 3 guys to rely on for the rest of the year, who would it be: Dunleavy, Jackson, Kevin Martin? H2H league with TOs, no percentages.

Hey so in regards to crop of mid-lower tier of PGs, rank em in order of most valuable for the 2nd half of the season

Foye, Harris, Rondo, Conley, Robinson, Gibson, Marcus Williams

Don’t know if I’ve forgotten anyone

I think it’’s important to see what trades and FA signings happen. If Boston gets Cassell, for example, Rondo’s value goes down. Marcus Williams should explode if Kidd gets traded and no legit PG comes back to NJ. But I’ll try to come up with some sort of list here in the next couple of days.

Guessing, I’ll say yes. The answer is DEFINITELY yes for Nazr and probably for Josh Boone.

The last Memphis game is a small sample size, but Darko did go for 14/16. Seeing as Memphis’s coach comes from Phoenix, it’s likely we’ll see a small-ball starting lineup for the rest of the year with Rudy Gay at PF and Darko at C.

Furthermore, if the anticipated trade of Stro Swift happens to the Nets, then NJ just got another capable big man while Memphis got back a better contract. All in all, I see Darko’s minutes increasing as much as he can handle to stay on the floor. Also, Boone might lose some PT to Swift or Krstic if he ever comes back. I don’t love any of these three guys at the minute, but Boone and Darko project out the best IMO.

I gotta say the decline of this blog is pretty sad. Last year I checked it daily, and there was always good fantasy info brom both the authors and a number of fairly active commenters. This year a weekly check is more than enough, and (unsurprisingly) the comments have all but dried up.

We’re right in the middle of the season, we’ve got major fantasy-relevant trades going on, and I’m still seeing Randy Foye news at the top of the page?

Yeah, I was throwing them a bone earlier in the season when updates weren’t as plentiful as last year, but it has gotten a little ridiculous. They’re clearly not doing it for the money, so it’s a little hard to complain - but the lack of updates are killing this blog. It has a decent readership for the niche that it is - I’d like to see them take on a couple of more writers to keep it going.

I’m not really sure what the two main authors have been up to. I agreed to do a weekly entry a couple of months back, and have struggled to contribute that much due to school/work and other activities. I’ll try to get an idea of exactly what is going on with the other guys and hopefully we can be on track soon, but yeah I realize this site has been pretty slow for the past month.

Yeah guys, I’ve been following this site religiously since the 06-07 season when I first found this blog. Wish there were more updates, the content here is really good stuff.

I agree. I used to come here a lot. The writing is good. The advice is solid. You could count on these guys to be on top of the latest developments with their two cents. This year I rarely come back because there’s nothing helpful here. The idea of a blog is that you update it every couple of days at the least. Even if it’s one paragraph of pure guesswork, opinion, or ranting.

6 posts in January and none so far in February doesn’t cut it.

Well it’s nice to see people coming out the woodworks to give some positive encouragement to get off my ass and start providing some updates. I’m extremely busy with a paper and three midterms in next 48 hours, but after that I’ll have lots of time for fantasy analysis…though I realize having the “newest” content is always the best.

Anyways, I’ll try and figure out what the other posters are up to and keep you updated. I enjoy this site just as much as you all do too!

I have a pending trade of Stephen Jackson and Ronnie Brewer in return, I get Gilbert Arenas and Elton Brand.

I’m starting to have second thoughts about this trade since having it sit there for a couple days before the guy finally pulled the trigger.

I’m leading my league, but on average about 8-9 games ahead of schedule in each position (11 on PG, 5 on C), people are gaining on me in 3PTM and I need to keep my assists and steals up. My fear is I lose position now, and won’t get to enjoy much of Arenas and Brand’s production when they do return and actually could hurt me in the long run.

Veto my own trade?
