News and Notes

Here is a quick little update on what is going on in the world of the NBA.  It involves information dealing with injuries, playing time, contract issues and much more.

Amir Johnson has decided to forgo  free agency and instead chose to sign a 5 year, $34 million deal to stay with the Toronto Raptors.

Mike Miller has been offered a 5 year, $30 million deal from the Los Angeles Lakers.  He has also had meetings with the Heat and the Knicks.  It is rumored though that both LeBron James and Dwayne Wade want Miller to sign with whichever team they sign with.

Brendan Haywood was offered a mid-level exception by the Detroit Pistons.  That probably won’t be enough to bring the 7 footer to Detroit.

Rudy Gay has agreed in principle with the Grizzlies to a 5 year, $66.5 million deal, the max allowed for a player with his tenure in the league.

Amare Stoudemire has told the Phoenix Suns that he will not exercise his $17.7 million option for next season.  He wants to become a free agent.  That doesn’t mean that he won’t return to the Suns.  He wants a maximum level contract to return to Phoenix.

Andrew Bynum says that he will be ready to play in Game 4.  He was limited in Game 3 by the injury and most likely will be limited in Game 4.  If he is healthy he can be a force but right now it doesn’t look like he is at 100%.

Grant Hill has exercised his one year player option and will return to the Phoenix Suns next year.

Rumor has it that the Timberwolves have their eyes set on signing Rudy Gay this off-season and that they have made it a priority.

Where will LeBron James end up?  Nobody knows.  NY has the perfect market for him.  Chicago has a great market for him and a better team to surround him with.  Golden State has no chance of getting him but I can still hope can’t I?

Sergio Rodriguez has signed a 3 year deal with Real Madrid.  He would have been a restricted free agent this year.

Zach Randolph is a thug, but you already knew that.  He has been reportedly linked by authorities to 2 criminal investigations this off season.  One involving an Indianapolis drug ring and another involving a fight outside a club in Los Angeles.  No charges have been filed as of yet.

NBA Players Need Their Rest

img217132_tDon’t be surprised if you see a player on your fantasy team that has an injury that he would usually play through, sitting the bench this week heading into the All-Star break. Coaches of NBA teams will be more likely to rest nagging injuries this week due to the extra rest from the All-Star break. Players like Manu Ginobili, Chris Paul, Rudy Gay and Chris Bosh will most likely be sitting out this week. This will give these superstars almost an entire week to recover from tiny sprains and strains.

It sucks for your fantasy team but it makes total sense for the real teams. Take a look at your roster and see who has been slowed by a sore ankle or a tender knee. If they are a big time player, there is a good chance that they won’t dress for games or might see a drop in minutes to be on the safe side. Or if they are a player that is the future of the team and they don’t want to take any chances, they will probably sit also. Plan accordingly when setting your rosters this week.
